I am going to tell you a story about the sweetest little boy I know named Jackson. His mom carried Jackson for 9 months and delivered him just like any other newborn baby. It wasn’t until Jackson left the hospital and was only home for a few hours when his mom and dad rushed him back to the hospital. Jackson wasn’t doing well, and doctors frantically performed many tests and lab work trying to determine what was wrong with Jackson.
Finally, an answer from the doctors. The doctors informed Jackson’s parents that Jackson was born with MMA cblC which is a rare genetic disorder that prevents the body from breaking down certain amino acids found in protein. It was a relief to finally have an answer and start medications to get Jackson better, but the doctors explained Jackson might not make the next few hours and or days and if he did, chances were slim he would even make a year. The outlook wasn’t good for Jackson, but this little boy proved those doctors wrong. Jackson is now 9 years old. YES, you read that right 9! He has defeated all odds and is a true miracle and blessing.
Even though he has daily shots and medications to take he continues to grow and amazes his family, friends and doctors. Jackson is legally blind and non-verbal, but he goes to school and rides the school bus. He knows his numbers and can write them. He runs faster than the speed of light and loves to climb. He loves swimming and I think he thinks he is aqua man sometimes. His favorite food is chicken taquitos, and his favorite drink is ginger ale. He loves it when you sing to him, and he likes to listen to music and dance like nobody is watching. He will give hugs and high fives. When he is hungry or thirsty, he will grab your hand to take you with him to show you what he wants. Jackson lights up a room and to see him smile will make you smile. Jackson brings hope and love to all. He is truly a miracle and has defeated all odds against him. I am proud and happy to know Jackson. Jackson might not realize it but there is a purpose for his life. I believe that purpose is love, encouragement and to prove miracles do exist. I could have written a story today on a nonfiction child and told you of some kind of superhero power they had but I wanted to tell you about Jackson, a true-life superhero I know who will always be “Jackson Strong”! If you are having a bad day, remember my story of Jackson. If he can do it, so can you!
I have his picture below so you can all see how truly special he is. Get ready to smile!
